Our education & career development programs enable youth to develop aspirations for the future, apply learning to every day situations and explore opportunities for career and educational enhancement, and offers assistance in resolving personal crises. The department that has undergone the most substantial upgrades recently is the Educational Room. It was opened in part with grants from the Packard Foundation. We have ten computers with full multimedia capabilities that are accessible for members. We offer a program entitled Power Hour, Monday through Thursday, which is a 2 hour block of time dedicated solely to homework. We also offer one on one tutoring to students who require extra help with assignments. Since they are not forced to attend Power Hour, the Club Members ultimately will motivate themselves. We also teach elective classes such as Creative Writing, Dance and Drama, among many others.
Power Hour
The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Cruz is offering an educational enhancement program called Power Hour. It is designed specifically to help members with homework, this program is available after school, Monday through Thursday from 3-5pm. Dedicated staff members supervise each session and help members complete their assignments for the day. When members finish their work, they may choose to participate in a variety of other engaging and educational activities to develop their skills even further. Tutoring is even available for Club members who need extra help with assignments. Members earn Power Points for participating in the program, completing their homework and taking part in additional learning activities. The points they earn can be exchanged for attractive prizes & special Club parties throughout the year.
