Sponsored by the Reader’s Digest Association,
Inc., Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s national Youth of the Year Program helps
young people become all they are capable of being. That’s what makes the Program
an effective year-round program for all members. It is at the Club level that the
Youth of the Year program has its greatest impact for developing young people, and
there are additional growth opportunities for those who go on to the state, regional
and national levels of the program. Every local Youth of the Year receives recognition.
The eligibility criteria considers each participant’s personal growth, development, and
contributions in the following areas: Home and Family Leadership, Spiritual Values,
Community Service, School Leadership and Service, Service to the Club, Life Goals,
and Obstacles Overcome. In addition, there are two essays describing the impact of
their Boys & Girls Club experience in their lives, and why a post-high school
education is important to them.
